My Superpower is being Me

The goal of this book is to empower children to love themselves as who they are is amazing.

This activity book enables positive thinking and journalling. In the first few page’s children are asked what are they grateful for or in the language of a child how do they feel lucky? What makes them lucky? There is also a gratitude tree where they can fill out the leaves of the tree.

This book helps build self-esteem in young children by practising affirmations in the mirror saying these affirmations to the child while the child repeats them. This helps build positive self-talk and self-image in younger children instilling confidence.

Next, the children learn how to identify emotions using emoji which in our society now is very known to children especially those using tablets, iPad in the home or in the educational setting. The children have a box where they can draw which emoji, they feel represents how they feel on that given day. This allows the child to recognise how they are feeling but also allowing the parent, caregiver or teacher talk about feelings with the child and ask more questions of why the child may feel this way.

Next, you come to an imaginary stepping stone exercise across a river to help manage strong emotions at each stepping stone there is a different task to help manage these emotions such as understanding it is ok to feel how they are feeling to sit with the feelings to take deep breathes, at the end of the river there may be someone waiting to give the child a hug or space for the child to sit wit their emotions alone depending on the child’s preference.

Another exercise for expressing their feelings and emotions is called the mad box it is a treasure chest where the child can draw or colour anything into the box the colours, they choose to say a lot about how they feel. There will be a little colour psychology dialogue box on the page for adults to observe the children’s colour choices and how they are feeling.

The next activity is movement, music and dance. These activities give the parent, teacher or caregiver the opportunity to ask the children to reflect on the sensation of moving and being still. Teaching children how to be still and reflect on what it is like to be still in comparison to movement. Dancing allows the child to let go and release pent up feelings. Dance movement therapy can help children express their emotions which does not require words, focusing on self- expression through the body.

The book introduces children to breathing exercises and learning to focus on their breathe. Using many different techniques to help children be more mindful through their senses.

By introducing yoga to children, it helps establish healthy habits at an early age. Yoga can enhance your child’s strength, coordination and flexibility, while encouraging body awareness and self-esteem. It can reduce your child’s anxiety and stress and promote a sense of calmness.

There are outdoor activities also present in this book to get children away from electronics and enjoy nature for all its beauty. Playing outsides creates creativity, curiosity and critical thinking. There are many activities in this book which allow adults to bond with their children helping create a positive relationship.

Finally, the book finishes on bedtime wishes which can be practiced by all religions.
